The Reason to Live by ~radnafub:iconradnafub:

Another one of those days. Just a normal day in the world, with nothing out of place. Such days make one begin to think, to wonder. Question existence perhaps, but maybe just a contemplation on purpose…because everyone knows that without purpose, life is pointless.

“Ever wonder if we’re destined for something…you know.”

“Yeah, of course. Because I can read your fucking mind.”

“I mean, something important.”

“Like what? Anything can be important to different people.”

“Something everyone can--something where there’s no mix-up that it’s really important.”

A calm breeze washed through the morning air, causing trees to rustle and awaken over the vacant city streets. The two runners continued their stretches, paired precariously close to the empty pavement.

“All right,” the runner wearing red finally said, a bit annoyed. “I know you want to talk about something. Just spill it.”

The other one, clad in blue looked up, appearing a bit more cheerful at Red’s urging, despite the obvious irritation. Red was always like that anyway.

“I was--well, I’ve been thinking a lot about why we’re alive…our race that is,” Blue began.

“Really now?” asked Red, mocking enthusiasm.

“Mmhmm,” continued Blue, not seeming to notice. “Isn’t it funny how we only live to die?”

“I don’t see how that’s funny.”

“No, not like actually ‘ha ha’ joke funny, I mean…ah, what’s that word that means…you know…”

“Ironic?”

“Yeah!” Blue lit up again, matching Red’s steady walk as they began to move further off the grass onto a dirt path.

“Do you even know what you’re trying to say--or ask?” Red questioned, looking up to the clear skies.

“Well of course,” replied Blue, crestfallen. “It’s something we all think about.”

“I don’t see why.”

“You don’t?”

“No.”

Red watched Blue’s face slowly slip into an expression of worthlessness, common among children and immature adults. Red heaved another sigh and continued with a bit lighter of an attitude.

“I just don’t see why we should worry about it, that’s all. It’s silly to waste valuable time thinking about our existence and the like.”

Blue was quick to reply.

“Ah, but it is important to think about. What else would we waste our time on?”

Red looked back to Blue, quirking an eyebrow.

“Actually living life?”

“Huh?”

“Instead of wasting my life thinking about it all the time, I like to just go out and actually live it.” Red placed a comforting hand on Blue’s shoulder. “Look, I know that philosophy is important, but it’s over our heads, my friend. Our job as citizens of life is to, heh, well it’s to live it.”

“Hmm…” Blue fell into deep thought, a hand moving to stroke a curious chin.

“It’s not that hard,” Red commented, removing the hand from Blue’s shoulder.

“No, I think I get it,” Blue muttered, roused from another moment of hardcore contemplation. “You’re saying for me to stop thinking and to just do things on…“ Blue snapped fingers as if trying to spark an idea. “uh, that word for on-the-spot things…”

“Impulse?”

“Yeah, or I meant that spontaneous word, but I’m sure that works, too.”

“That’s not…” Red started, then chuckled a bit. “Let’s just run, okay?”

Blue nodded vigorously, leaping into the air a few times in preparation for the anticipated movement.

“Good idea, I’m tired of all this thinking.”

With that, the two runners took off into the horizon, the sun greeting their approach as the city began to come to life.
